Top 10 Best Liverpool Jerseys of All Time, Ranked

Top 10 best Liverpool jerseys ranked, featuring the 1995/96 home shirt and the 2005 Champions League final shirt

Last updated: október 6, 2026

Liverpool have worn red since 1896, but the shirts people actually argue about are the ones from the last three decades. This ranking covers ten of them, ordered by what each shirt means rather than by what it costs.

Two notes on method before the list. First, this is an editorial ranking, not a price guide: the criteria are set out below and you are free to disagree with the order. Second, everything factual here — the 1892 founding, the switch to all-red, the manufacturer eras, the 2005 final — is sourced at the end of the page.

In a listing, “jersey” normally means the shirt. “Kit” can mean the overall design or a bundle, so check whether shorts and socks are actually included.

How This Ranking Works

Every shirt below is judged on three things, in this order:

Criterion What it means
What it is tied to The match, season or era the shirt belongs to
Design significance Whether it changed how Liverpool shirts looked afterwards
Editorial preference How the visual design and its historical context work together; not measured collector demand

Weighting matters. A shirt can be beautifully made and still rank low here, because Liverpool’s shirt history is long and only a handful of designs are genuinely load-bearing.

The Ten Best Liverpool Jerseys, Ranked

10. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 2006/07

The first shirt of Adidas’s second spell at the club, after a decade of Reebok. It ranks here because it marks a clean break rather than because of anything that happened in it — the design language it introduced ran through the next six seasons.

If you want to understand how Liverpool shirts moved from the late-1990s look into the modern era, this is the hinge. See the 2006/07 home shirt.

9. Retro Liverpool Away Jersey 1993/95

The 1993/95 away design gives this list a contrast to the red home shirts. Its position here reflects our editorial design preference, not a claim about resale prices, production totals or scarcity.

8. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 2013/14

The 2013/14 home shirt is associated with Liverpool’s title challenge and second-place league finish. The club’s season review records that improvement. Compare the Suárez #7 listing with its photos and size information.

7. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 2010/12

The 2010/12 home design spans two seasons and includes the start of Luis Suárez’s Liverpool period. A design date does not date the manufacture of a newly made retro shirt. Check the selected listing and its printing options.

6. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 1996/97

The 1996/97 design marks the start of Liverpool’s Reebok era after adidas. This ranking uses that change as historical context, rather than assigning collector demand to the shirt.

5. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 2008/09

The Gerrard-era home shirt, and the one most people picture when they think of Liverpool in the late 2000s. A named version exists — the Gerrard #8 2008/09 home shirt — which makes this one of the easier shirts to buy in a specific player’s number.

4. Retro Liverpool Home Jersey 1995/96

The 1995/96 design closes the first adidas spell at Liverpool. If choosing a named version, check the intended season and player number against a match or squad record; a printing option alone does not establish that the player wore that combination.

3. Retro Liverpool Away Jersey 2004/05

This away design belongs to the 2004/05 campaign, but Liverpool wore the home design in the Istanbul final. Compare the plain away listing without assuming every available name-and-number combination was worn during that season.

2. Retro Liverpool Home Centenary Jersey 1992/93

The 1992/93 home shirt commemorated the club’s centenary. Liverpool’s official crest history distinguishes that centenary badge from the later version: the memorial flames were added after the centenary year.

The anniversary is the reason this design ranks second in our selection. Check the centenary listing for its exact badge, printing and size details.

1. Retro Liverpool UCL Final Home Jersey 2005

The shirt of the 2005 Champions League final, and the highest-ranked shirt on this list.

The facts of that night are worth restating plainly, because they are the reason the shirt matters. AC Milan led 3-0 at half-time through a Paolo Maldini goal after a minute and two from Hernán Crespo. Liverpool scored three in six minutes early in the second half — Steven Gerrard on 54 minutes, Vladimír Šmicer on 56, Xabi Alonso on 60 — and the match finished 3-3. Liverpool won the penalty shoot-out 3-2, with Andriy Shevchenko’s miss settling it. Gerrard captained the side.

A shirt tied to a comeback of that shape is not going to be displaced from the top of a Liverpool ranking any time soon. See the 2005 UCL final home shirt.

Two Shirts Worth Knowing About

Two additional designs provide context for this selection; they are not ranked here.

The all-red change. Liverpool’s move to an all-red strip under Bill Shankly in the 1960s is part of the visual background to the later home shirts. This is historical context, not a claim about the availability or value of surviving original garments.

The 2005 commemorative Istanbul shirt. A separate commemorative design tied to the same final as the number one entry — the Istanbul commemorative jersey. If you are buying for the occasion rather than the match, this is the one to look for, but be clear about which of the two you are buying, because they are different garments.

What to Check Before Buying a Liverpool Retro Shirt

For a retro purchase, separate the historical design from the actual garment being offered. These three checks help make that distinction.

  1. Confirm the product being offered. An original period garment and a newly made shirt based on an older design are different purchases. A retro label does not establish its manufacture date, provenance or licensing status.
  2. Match the shirt to its manufacturer era. Liverpool shirts ran Umbro from 1968 to 1985, Adidas from 1985 to 1996, Reebok from 1996 to 2006, Adidas again from 2006 to 2012, Warrior from 2012 to 2015, New Balance from 2015 to 2020, Nike from 2020 to 2025, and Adidas from 2025 onwards. A shirt described as a 1998 design with an Adidas mark does not add up.
  3. Check the size against the size guide, not the label. Older shirts were cut differently, and a labelled size from 1996 does not map cleanly onto a labelled size today. Measure a shirt you already own and compare.

For the wider version question — how a player version differs from a fan version in cut and sizing — we cover that separately in our Liverpool and club shirt sizing guide.

Liverpool Kit FAQ

What is Liverpool’s home kit colour? Red. The club has worn red in some form since 1896 and moved to an all-red kit in the 1964-65 season. The blue and white shirts of 1892 to 1896 were inherited from Everton.

When was Liverpool founded?

  1. Everton left Anfield in March 1892 after a dispute with the ground’s owner, John Houlding, and Houlding founded Liverpool FC three days later.

What was Liverpool’s centenary shirt? The 1992/93 home design marked the club’s 100th year. The official crest history explains that memorial flames were added to the badge after the centenary year.

Which Liverpool shirt did they wear in the 2005 Champions League final? The home shirt. The final finished 3-3 against AC Milan, and Liverpool won the penalty shoot-out 3-2.

Who made Liverpool’s kits? Umbro from 1968 to 1985, Adidas from 1985 to 1996, Reebok from 1996 to 2006, Adidas again from 2006 to 2012, Warrior from 2012 to 2015, New Balance from 2015 to 2020, Nike from 2020 to 2025, and Adidas from 2025 onwards. Adidas returned to Liverpool for a third spell from the 2025/26 season, so the current kit is an Adidas design.

Are Liverpool retro shirts still made? Yes, and that is the main thing to watch when buying. Modern reproductions of older designs are widely sold and are a different product from an original garment of that year.

Where to Start

Where can you buy a Liverpool jersey? Start with the specific shirt you want rather than with a shop, then check that one listing against the manufacturer era, the size guide and the seller’s policies — the three checks above are the sequence this article has walked through.

A note on who is writing this. Flux Jersey sells Liverpool shirts, including the retro items linked below. The design and tournament facts in this article are sourced from the organisations credited at the end. The ranking is editorial, and the advice is written to be useful whether or not you buy from us.

If you are looking for an earlier era, our Liverpool retro range runs from the 1992/93 centenary shirt through to the 2013/14 home design, including named versions. For the current shirt, the Liverpool home jersey full kit is the starting point, and our Liverpool 2026/27 kit guide covers all three shirts of the current season in detail.

Whatever you choose, check the size guide on the specific product page and read the shipping policy and returns policy before ordering.
